Guest Reviews

These are actual reviews posted on Airbnb and Booking.com, shown exactly as written.

Access

We recommend arriving by car. There are few restaurants within walking distance, which can make dining and shopping inconvenient. By car, many restaurants are within 10 minutes, and it's also convenient for exploring the area.

Our Commitment

Exterior

In February 2026, we renewed the exterior with "yakisugi" (charred cedar siding).Read more

Yakisugi is a traditional Japanese technique in which the surface of cedar boards is charred, making the wood more resistant to weather and pests and giving it a distinctive black texture. We charred and installed every board ourselves, using cedar grown locally here in Kumano.

Interior

The manga bookshelf, bed, and table are all made from local cedar and hinoki cypress.Read more

In a June 2026 renovation, most of the walls were finished with "shikkui," a natural lime plaster. Shikkui absorbs and releases moisture to help regulate humidity, and has long been used in traditional Japanese storehouses and castles.

Soundproofing

We're on a convenient road, but we know some guests worry about traffic noise.Read more

That's why the bedroom has soundproof inner windows and a soundproof door. Since installing them, we've had zero reviews mentioning noise. For anyone still concerned, earplugs are also available.

Environmental Care

Since we're fortunate to draw on a natural hot spring, we try to give a little back to the earth wherever we can.Read more

We don't provide single-use plastic amenities like toothbrushes. Our soap is chosen for high biodegradability, and our shampoo and conditioner are selected with both hair and scalp care in mind.
